Roorkee: In a major step toward its RE100 and carbon neutrality targets, Shree Cement Ltd., a leader in India’s cement sector, has successfully commissioned a new 6.0 MWp solar power plant at its Roorkee facility in Uttarakhand.
The project aligns with the company’s long-term sustainability strategy and reinforces its position as a pioneer in green cement manufacturing.
Strategically located adjacent to its existing cement operations, the newly commissioned solar plant increases the Roorkee facility’s solar capacity from 1.0 MWp to 7.0 MWp, representing a sevenfold jump.
With this expansion, Shree Cement’s total installed solar power capacity has reached 293.5 MWp, making it one of the largest renewable energy adopters in India’s cement industry.
Developed with a capital investment of ₹16 crore, the solar project is expected to significantly reduce dependence on grid-based electricity and offset approximately 6,500 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions annually – a critical contribution to climate action and environmental stewardship.
“Sustainability is embedded in everything we do,” said Neeraj Akhoury, Managing Director, Shree Cement Ltd. “The commissioning of our Roorkee solar plant is a clear demonstration of our commitment to carbon reduction and energy resilience. Beyond environmental impact, projects like these also generate local employment and foster inclusive economic development.”
